The Trauma Centre invited women from a farm in Piketberg to commemorate National Women’s Day.

The aim was to educate the women around domestic violence and to give them an opportunity to get in touch with their inner woman, discovering their own strengths and sharing their life experiences with other women. The 17 women were welcomed by means of a light breakfast and were served lunch before their departure.

Women’s Day is an annual public holiday in South Africa on 9 August. On this day in 1956, over 20 000 women of all races and ages from every corner of South Africa marched together towards the Union Buildings in Pretoria. These brave women were march¬ing in protest against the pass laws that pro¬posed even fur¬ther restric¬tions on the move¬ments of women. At the end of the day, the Piketberg farm women have found the Trauma Centre’s workshop very helpful and vowed they will from now utilise the lessons they have learned about this topic.
